iOS 11.3: How to avoid the dreaded 'unable to verify update' bug when the new version arrives – Mirror.co.uk

Apple boss Tim Cook has already apologised for Apple slowing down processors in old phones – but he also revealed the next iOS update will give iPhone owners the option to disable this ‘throttling feature.’

While the timeline for the update to iOS 11 .3 remains unclear, Cook claimed that a developer release will happen ‘next month’, suggesting that the final version will arrive in March.

With every iOS update, many users face difficulties installing the changes, and some are faced with the dreaded ‘unable to verify update’ bug .

The good news is that this error message has been around for a few years and the fix has stayed the same.

These fixes should make sure your update goes smoothly

Firstly, make sure your device is connected to the internet.

Whether or not the Wi-Fi symbol appears in the top bar, open up Safari and try and load a web page.

If the page loads, you’re connected, and if not, try turning Wi-Fi on and off or rebooting your device.

Another thing to look out for is that you’re on a normal home network, as some public Wi-Fi networks may stop a connection from being made to the Apple servers.

1. Shut down the Settings app

Try shutting down the Settings app, by double-tapping the home button and swiping the Settings app upwards.

Then re-open the Settings app, and install the update again.

2. Refresh your device’s memory

If closing and reopening the Settings app doesn’t work, try to refresh your device’s memory.

Press and hold the power button until the ‘Slide to power off’ screen appears. Then press and hold the home button until the home screen returns – this refreshes your device’s memory.

3. Reset your Network Settings

An issue with your network may be preventing the update, so resetting your settings can be a good trick.

In Settings, go to Reset, then Reset Network Settings, and tap Reset.

A note of warning if you do this – your device will forget all your WiFi passwords and these will need to be rejoined individually.

4. Delete the update

Your final option is deleting the update, which may be corrupt.

In Settings, go to General, then Storage & iCloud Usage. Tap Manage Storage, and scroll down until you see Software Update.

Tap on this, then tap Delete Update. You can then try to reinstall it.
